Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area

Enchanted Forest Summer 2024

A whole other world awaits, just 5 minutes from Red River.

From camping yurt rentals, to Nordic Walking, (it’s like regular walking but with 100% more Nordic), to Fat Bike rentals, or hiking and biking trails, Enchanted Forest has something fun for everyone.

We have 4 overnight camping yurts for your more adventurous side, but that side doesn’t include wanting to pitch a tent and sleep on the ground. Yurts are more permanent round tents with real beds and a camp like setup. A gas cook stove, wood stove heat, and starry skies that shine through a clear dome in the middle of the roof. They are hike or bike in, from one quarter to two miles from the parking area.

Instead of riding with traffic or bouncing down jeep trails on a mountain bike, how about gliding along smooth trails through a private reserve with signs at every intersection on a bike with cushy balloon tires that absorb every bump? Fat bikes are at Enchanted Forest and sized for the entire family. With miles of trails rated for steepness you can find a rout that is fun and just your speed. You still have to get up some hills, but all trails are downhill back to the Day Lodge.

If you have ever been for a hike and wondered, “What should I be doing with my arms?” Nordic Walking might be for you! Nordic Walking is a whole-body workout with the ease of walking using Nordic ski poles specially designed for summer use. You get that extra zing from using your arms to help propel yourself, as well as the advantage of that total body workout. Fast or slow, walking, hiking, or even bounding, Nordic walking is an exhilarating way to enjoy the 20+ miles of Enchanted Forest trails and get a workout too.

And, if you are the kind of person who likes to keep it simple, we have hiking trails that the only special equipment you need for is your feet. (Hiking boots or shoes recommended on feet.) Or, you enjoy big hills, single track, and tight turns on your own bike, we have those kinds of trails too! And, if you just want to come stroll, birdwatch, look for flowers, and see some of the best views in Taos County, you can do that too.

Enchanted Forest has and outdoor activity for everyone, even the place to sleep, and we can help make your summer adventure in Red River even better.

John & Judy are gone…

It is with heavy hearts that we report founders John and Judy Miller both passed away Thanksgiving week. The entire Enchanted Forest community is saddened by their passing. They both skied and snowshoed as long as they could, and even visited the area in the last 2 years.

Gorgeous Views

“What a great time and beautiful area! Gorgeous views from the yurt site and day hike trails. Perfect distance from any other houses to be secluded but also not too far for a quick excursion back to the car and Red River if desired. All the expected basics that were included in the listing were there at the yurt…. Highly recommend to anyone considering.”

Definitely… Should Visit

“The day I biked here there was hardly anyone here and I had views of Wheeler Peak and back into Red River all to myself. Additionally, there are the yurts you can rent and hike/ski/bike into during any season. This is definitely a chunk of the New Mexico wilderness you should visit. I will definitely keep coming back.”

Cute Little Hideaway

“Be ready to educate your family regarding yurts. A great hike to the top of the ski area. A cute little hideaway complete with bunk beds, wood burning stove, propane camp stove and lantern. Enjoy eating around the firepit or around the large dining room table inside. It’s not really roughing it unless you aren’t fond of outhouses.”
